Fitness for Life VS Fitness for Competition

May 22, 2019

CrossFit is known for its intense workouts that offer amazing results. CrossFit, however, has a reputation for only really being for those people interested in fitness for competition rather than fitness for life. What this means is that a person who is trying to get healthy may not benefit as much from CrossFit as someone who is a more experienced workout guru who participates in competitions like bodybuilding or even such events as marathons or triathlons. So, is CrossFit for fitness for life or fitness for competition?

The first thing that you should know is that there is a distinct difference in fitness for life and fitness for competition. When you are talking about fitness for life, there is a focus on having a healthier lifestyle so that you can be the healthiest version of yourself. You are focusing on your health, which means you won’t necessarily need to bulk up, unless you want that muscular appearance. When you are talking about fitness for competition, you are talking about those people who want to be in peak physical condition for whatever competition that they are trying to excel in. It’s about not being physically healthy but displaying your fit physique.

The great thing about CrossFit is that it can be an excellent option for both types of people: those trying to be healthier and those wanting to compete. What first attracts people to the gym for CrossFit is the incredible results that one can gain from doing CrossFit. It is an efficient way to lose weight, improve performance, and develop muscles. These are very tangible results that people love to see when they spend hours in the gym. What’s great about CrossFit is that it’s not only a workout that will help you meet your health goals, but it’s a community experience. You are in there with other people who also want to be healthier. You can grow with your community, learning to live a healthier lifestyle. If you’re new to CrossFit, this community can be especially beneficial to you as you can learn tips and get a ton of advice to those who have been doing it for a lot longer.

There is also the competitive side of things. This is where you are trying to perfect your workouts and identifying any weaknesses that you may have. You are focused on getting the proper form to do more reps. You are trying to get stronger so that you are a better competitor. You may even want to be the top CrossFit athlete in the room. You have this option, but you can still benefit from being a casual CrossFitter.

CrossFit is for anyone who wants to participate in this incredible activity. You may need to do modified versions of certain exercises until you build up your strength and endurance. The most important thing to remember about CrossFit is that it is a community experience, where you can engage with others while participating in this activity. CrossFit is for people of all skill levels. You just need to move at your own pace.
